At least two structural columns buckled and failed in a 37-story office tower in Midtown Manhattan on Tuesday, prompting evacuations of nearby streets and buildings.

New York officials said they are “confident” the installation of temporary shoring is stabilizing an under-construction Midtown Manhattan building that was evacuated after structural columns buckled.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani, speaking alongside Governor Kathy Hochul, said public safety remains the city's top priority as engineers continue assessing the building.
